Amory Berkenveld (vocals), Michael Varekamp (vocals, trumpet), Yoran Aarssen (saxophone), Wiboud Burkens (hammond & piano), Harry Emmery (bass), Erik Kooger (drums)

After the success of ‘Miles!’, ‘Louis!’ and ‘I’m a Soulman’, The Legends and singer/host/trumpet player Michael Varekamp present a new show about the life of Billie Holiday and other divas of the previous century’s glory time of jazz and soul. During the 1920s, a show business full of girl power flourishes. With magical talents, women run nightclubs, travel in their own trains and lead their very own big bands like true CEOs. These women are strong and independent, though not rarely their lives have a tragic edge, as in the background they’re accompanied by mysterious and even destructive men. In ‘Billie in Concert!’, the young singing sensation Amory Berkenveld steps into the shoes of Billie Holiday. Amory grew up with jazz, spending her childhood with records of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. More info : ww.youtube.com/watch?v=JJS1wxrVzvc&feature=youtu.be

ESTONIAN JAZZ

Kristjan Rudanovski (violin), Jaanis Kill (guitar), Robert Nõmmann (bass)

This year we propose a collective of young Estonian jazz musicians named  TITOKS. Titoks consists of three friends, who are young, yet already quite established musicians, having achieved an ideal harmony in thought and sound due to having played together for years.

“A usual gig as a background band gave birth to a group that had never been seen before. Titoks – the first gypsy-jazz trio in Estonia. We played our first concert as Titoks at IDeeJazz 2016. Since then, we have been dreaming that Estonia would become known as a place where gypsy-jazz is played as passionately as in Finland or the Netherlands, for example. Our role models are Raimond Valgre, Biréli Lagrene and, of course, the legendary Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli.”

TONKA

CARTE BLANCHE A GUILLAUME MALEMPRE

Lydie Thonnard (Flute), Eve Willems (accordion), Mathieu Thonnard (bass), Guillaume Malempré (drums)

After a common desire to play together and a little afternoon of musical exchange and improvisation, the band was born. Lydie, Eve and Mathieu met at the Liège Conservatory, and at  the Michel Massot Chamber Rock class. As for Guillaume, he met the group during a jazz workshop at the AKDT of Libramont. The songs played are either compositions or arrangements of traditional world music. Asymmetrical rhythms, oriental colors and broad harmonies, all in a beautiful energy, that's the sound of Tónka.
