BEN SIDRAN

JAZZ - RAP GROOVE - INTERNATIONAL TOP JAZZ

Ben Sidran (piano & voice), Leo Sidran (drums & voice), Billy Peterson (bass)

"One minute folksy, the next erudite, Sidran never shows off because he never has to... That he is still living is our grace. Some gifts just keep on giving."  - All About Jazz

Ben Sidran has been a major force in the modern day history of jazz and rock & roll having played keyboards with or produced such artists as Steve Miller, Mose Allison, Diana Ross, Boz Scaggs, Phil Upchurch, Tony Williams, Jon Hendricks, Richie Cole and Van Morrison. It's been a long and varied journey for Ben Sidran — from playing boogie woogie piano as a six year old in Racine, Wisconsin, leaning into his jazz records, listening to a Blue Mitchell solo "literally like an Eskimo huddled around a fire", to growing up to play boogie woogie piano around the world and, eventually, recording with Blue Mitchell on his first solo album. Despite the reality that Sidran is better known in Europe and Japan than in America—a fact of life for most jazz musicians—Ben Sidran is an American success story.

CECI N'EST PAS UN TRIO

NEW ORLEANS & SWING

CARTE BLANCHE TO ANGELO GREGORIO

Angelo Gregorio (sax/compositions) Julien Gillain (organ), Lucas Vanderputten (drums)

Angelo Gregorio is a very active Brussels jazz saxophonist and on this occasion will present his trio and new album "Ceci n'est pas a trio". By the name "Ceci n'est pas a trio" Angelo wants to pay homage to the country that welcomed him ten years ago, Belgium, referring to Magritte's surrealism. At the heart of this trio is the passion for the great era of New Orleans and Swing, which began with the first jazz records of ODJB in 1917 till the swing of the great orchestras of the 40s. Angelo and his fellow musicians in addition to the high musical level, have a desire. Show the audience that music, in this case jazz, is in perennial connection with other arts, and draws, interprets and re-elaborates facts, values, ancient and current traditions. Definitely a jazz trio that will swing you out of your chair!

BRUSSELS GROOVE COLLECTIVE : 25 SINGERS !

Pete Churchill (piano, vocal and lead), and 25 singers from the Conservatory and from the Belgian scene.

Is it possible to have 25 singers on one stage, singing as one voice, in harmony, with one groove? Well, come and discover them yourself for the first time in your favourite club — we do not know where we will put them all!  The Brussels Groove Collective (BGC), the jazz vocal group from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, is directed by London- based pianist-singer Pete CHURCHILL. A great performer on stage, this man is famous for helping the legendary Jon Hendricks to complete his lyricisation of the famous Gil Evans/Miles Davis album, Miles Ahead - in insider language, this is known as « vocalese » (and Quincy Jones was so impressed that he flew Pete’s London Choir to New York for the world premiere).

Among the singers in the BGC there are some external reinforcements, not least: Fabien Degryse and Ivan Paduart, well known on the Belgian jazz scene, who have joined the bass section!  The choir’s repertoire is full of great standards from the world of gospel, groove and jazz, songs by Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, James Taylor, Count Basie… and Pete Churchill. A rare experience at the Village. Book early !

IVAN PADUART invites GREG HOUBEN

TOP BELGIAN JAZZ

Greg Houben (chant, trompette, buggle, compositions), Ivan Paduart (piano, compositions), Cédric Raymond (contrebasse), Mathias De Waele (batterie)

With the unavoidable influences of Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock, pianist-composer Ivan Paduart has forged the individual sound and style which has made him a main pillar of Belgian jazz today. He invites GREG HOUBEN, no longer the rising trumpet talent, but today a musician whose maturity and generosity are impressive, and whose models are the great trumpet players of the fifties and sixties, Miles DAVIS, Chet BAKER, Kenny DORHAM, etc.

The wide vocal range, the power and warmth of his soulful voice are the first things that grab your attention. MAT NAJEAN JAZZ BAND - 7tet

Noé Codjia (trumpet), Edouard Wallyn (trombone), Mathieu Najean (sax, composition), Bastien Brison (piano), Romain Vuillemin (guitar), Edouard Pennes (bass), David Paycha (drums)

The "Mat Najean Jazz Band" was born in January 2019 in Paris. Surrounded by excellent musicians from the Paris jazz scene (Collectif Paris Swing, Zoot Collectif, Hot Sugar Band, Reverent Juke ...), Mathieu Najean wants to play his own compositions with this group. Inspired by the London group "Kansas Smitty's House Band", the "Mat Najean Jazz Band" does not want to be confined to a particular style of jazz. Through his compositions, always rooted in swing and blues, he gives himself the freedom to compose a rag like Jelly Roll Morton, a fantasy like Ellington, a blues like Basie, a bop like Bud Powel, a hard bop inspired by Jazz Messenger, or a more modern piece in the current jazz styles ...
