RULES
The Competition affords a unique opportunity for young jazz singers
to gain the recognition of an international audience.
The Competition takes place in Brussels best-known Jazz Club,
the Music Village.
The competition is held thanks to the sponsorship
of the Brussels Regional Government.

The competition is placed under the patronage
of DAVID LINX,
with the collaboration of several jazz specialists


General rules

Entry admission
The Competition is open to everyone born after December 31st, 1973.
Only vocalists can enter.

No admission fee is required for the 2008 edition.

Stages of the Competition

a) Complete the application form you can download here
and join the requested items :

a) demo cd containing maximum four pieces of music
of max. 20 min. total recording time, including:

1 ballad
1 up tempo piece
1 American Song Book piece
1 personal choice / approach
(of course one piece can answer to 2 of these requests)

Please don't send a full cd but just a cd with the four pieces of your choice.
Please note that the material sent will not be sent back.

b) Jury members will examine applications forms and a demo CD
and will choose the 12 candidates who will take part for
the semi-finals from the 9th to the 12th of December 2008.


These candidates will be notified by October 10th, 2008.
These candidates have to confirm their participation to the final stage of the competition. Every semi-finalist contestant has to keep December 13th free.

The scores have to be sent by mail or by post before October 25th in order to be given to the musicians.As the main purpose is to find out more about the talent of the vocalist-competitor, too sophisticated musical arrangements should be avoided.

c) Semi-finals (12 competitors) at the Music Village
The candidates qualified for the semi-finals will be invited to perform in Brussels from Wednesday 9th December to Friday 12th December. The musical pieces are to be presented accompanied either by a trio provided by the organization in front of the jury (± 20 min.).
The vocalist, if requested, may use her or his own instrument

All performances are open to the public.


d) Final (3 competitors) at the AB
The finalists will perform the day following the semi-finals, on December 13th
(20 minutes each) for the final concert and the ceremony awards.
Please note that the pieces presented should be different from those of the semi-finals and will include the standard piece “RIVER” by Joni Mitchell.

Travel and accommodation
Travel expenses are to be covered entirely by the candidates.
Accommodation for candidates who are non-Belgian or non-resident in Belgium
(hotel and continental breakfast)
is covered by the organization in the centre of Brussels and only for the contestant.

Recordings
The BYSC reserves the right to record audio and video material of the competitors' performances and remains the sole owner of this material.
The candidate gives all rights for radio and television transmission,
as well as for eventual recording production to the BYSC.
