The Contest affords a unique opportunity for young vocalists with a background from jazz, folk, roots, blues to gain the recognition of an international audience.
And become the Norah Jones, Jamie Cullum, Diana Krall or Amy Winehouse of tomorrow.

Since its start «The Music Village», the Jazz Club of the Belgian capital, has always programmed numerous jazz singers.
In December 2008 will take place the 4th edition of the event imagined and created by the club, the “BRUSSELS INTERNATIONAL YOUNG JAZZ SINGERS CONTEST”,
mainly meant to be the meeting-place of rising talents from all over the world.
This year there will be a special opening towards blues, folk, roots, music genres who share with jazz the passion for the blue note, balanced rhythm, improvisation and fraternal emotion.

The Brussels Young Jazz Singers
Competition

This fourth edition of the contest will take place from
Tuesday 9 to Sunday 13 december 2008.
Any jazz singer (male or female, professional or not) born after 31 December 1973 can apply for participation.
A pre-selection of candidates, on the basis of a file and a recording, will be done by the jury. By 10 October 2008, the jury will select 12 singers to participate in concert in Brussels in December 2008.

Four semi-final sessions will take place before a live public in
the Music Village Jazz Club, from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 December 2008.
At the end of these sessions the jury will select 3 finalists who will compete for the 3 prizes at the Final Gala Concert on Saturday13 December 2008,
at the AB, the Brussels main concert venue.

The jury will be composed of persons with confirmed talent and judgement, issued from different present-day jazz genres and different generations,
presided by DAVID LINX.

For its contribution to the reputation and the artistic life of the Brussels region this project receives the support of the “Gouvernement de la REGION BRUXELLOISE” and the “Echevinat de la Culture” of the city of Brussels.

The ASBL “The Music Village” is in charge of the general organization
of the contest, under the direction of Paul Huygens.
